Hello everyone and welcome back to our Product Spotlight blog series. In this blog series, we will be taking a more in-depth look at each product in the Forge Creek Original Hemp Co catalog. We felt as though this would provide a great opportunity for us to introduce our products in a more refined and personal way, with the added benefit of answering some questions you may have regarding each of our products. Whether you’re a dedicated Forge Creek customer or just now hearing about us, by the end of this series we hope you’ll walk away with a better understanding of our products.
In today’s blog we’ll be taking a closer look at our 500mg broad spectrum CBD salve. First, for those who don’t know, broad spectrum refers to the type of CBD extract used in our salves and tinctures. This type of CBD is rich in cannabidiol and contains other cannabinoids such as CBN and CBG. Most importantly, it contains non-detectable levels of THC. If some of these terms are a bit confusing, I suggest pausing and checking out a couple of our earlier blog posts, such as: What exactly is CBD? and The Different Types of CBD: A User's Guide.
As stated earlier, our 500mg broad spectrum CBD salve contains 500 milligrams of broad spectrum CBD distillate. We take this distillate, and through a rigorous process of homogenization, we combine it with a host of all natural ingredients such as almond oil, shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax, to create our one of a kind CBD topical. This particular blend and combination of skin nourishing oils provides a superior topical experience, as it both penetrates and absorbs into the skin, effectively delivering CBD directly to the area of your body that is in need of relief. While there are almost endless choices in oils when it comes to salves and topical products, we chose our ingredients for very specific reasons. Let’s take a closer look at these ingredients and why we chose them.
First on our list of ingredients is almond oil, in particular: sweet almond oil. Sweet almond oil is a good fat powerhouse, packed with vitamin A, vitamin E (an antioxidant!), and other micro nutrients. The oil absorbs easily into the skin without leaving behind an oily residue, making it ideal for a topical product. Being mostly non-comedogenic, it's unlikely that almond oil will clog or stifle your pores. Because of this and its levels of vitamin A, some people use almond oil as an at-home treatment for acne or other skin conditions. Others use almond oil because of its vitamin E content, which according to many, can keep skin looking and feeling healthy. All of these properties played an important role when we decided to use almond oil in our CBD salve.
The next ingredient on our list is shea butter. Extracted from shea tree nuts, shea butter is full of fatty acids and vitamins. Shea butter has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and provides a certain richness to the consistency of our salves, meaning a little will go a long way.
Coconut oil lends itself to the substantial consistency of our salves as well, while also imparting its skin nourishing properties. Much like our other ingredients, coconut oil has been shown to have some anti-inflammatory properties, as well as possible antimicrobial properties and the ability to improve antioxidant status. Along with this host of properties comes the sweet and pleasing, but not overpowering, natural scent of coconut.
Lastly on our list of fats and oils is beeswax. Beeswax is a natural wax produced by honey bees and is used in a myriad of different products (its even edible!). Full of fatty acids and vitamin A, beeswax is a favorite among skin care enthusiasts. This all-natural wax, when applied to the skin, creates a protective barrier which both attracts and locks in moisture, nourishing the skin. In a similar fashion to shea butter, beeswax adds another layer of richness to the consistency of our salves, and like coconut oil, imparts a sweet and natural fragrance.
On top of our choices of oils, fats, and broad spectrum CBD distillate, we decided to add a touch of menthol to our salves. The goal in doing so was to take advantage of the beneficial properties found in menthol, such as its cooling and vasodilation effects, without making our salves too overpowering or too harsh for those with sensitive skin. After some trial and error during the research and development stage, we believe our final product meets this goal and even exceeds expectations.
While our tinctures may be the stars of the show, being the most popular product that we offer, our 500mg broad spectrum CBD salve has a special place in our hearts and in the hearts of our incredibly loyal customers who continue to use it. When interacting with our customers or interested persons at different events around the River Valley, on the topic of our salve we always tell them that it doesn't sell as well as our tinctures but those who try it rave about it and come back for more. To speak candidly, I love our tincture. I think it's the best CBD tincture on the market and it tastes delicious. That being said, our salve is by far my favorite product that we have produced. At the end of R&D I snagged a tin for myself and after that first day of use I knew that we had created something really special, something that could potentially help a whole lot of people.
